Position Details

What You Will Do

The Senior Underwriter, Commercial Lines, underwrites and prices new business applications, endorsements and renewals on policies within a set binding authority. This Underwriter will handle 4-5 preferred transportation brokers as well as will be allocated the current portfolios of brokers in property insurance.

  • Grow and maintain a profitable portfolio.
  • Maintain in-force policies and ensure all policies are issued within service standards with the appropriate wordings, schedules, and certificates attached
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationship with brokers by providing exceptional customer service
  • Work collaboratively to support broker, claims, pricing and accounting inquires 
  • Provide exceptional customer service by answering telephone inquiries, making outgoing calls, respond to emails and/or faxes as may be required
  • Track and produce daily, weekly and monthly production activity reports
  • Assist in monthly business activity reporting
  • Willingness to travel as some travel is required (20%)

 

Who You Are 

  • A minimum of 6 – 10 years experience in commercial lines underwriting :  inland marine and property
  • Post-secondary education in a related field and/or a CIP designation is required. Working towards FCIP or CRM designation is an asset
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with product development and developing underwriting guidelines
  • Strong product knowledge and thorough understanding of insurance policy wordings with the ability to make sound business decisions 
  • Excellent analytical skills and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written; French would be an asset
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Able to effectively set priorities to meet deadlines with a strong attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and Power Point)
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment 
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to establish professional relationships
