Position Details
What You Will Do
• Keep abreast of the strategic direction of government, parliamentary committees, opposition parties, CAA National and internal departments, and provide recommendations to the executive management accordingly on relevant policy items
• Meet with decision makers (politicians, bureaucrats, etc.) to determine key issues and how CAA can contribute to the government policy development process
• Lobby government and negotiate to achieve outcomes and strategic objectives
• Monitor legislative agenda and keep informed of current and pending government grants and/or partnership opportunities to promote CCG initiatives
• Develop solution-driven proposals and policy statements
• Liaise with internal teams to become familiar with synergies that can be incorporated within government relations strategy
• Determine advocacy projects such as Worst Roads and Association of Municipalities of Ontario opportunities to maximize Member involvement and stakeholder engagement
• Project manage advocacy campaigns, provide oversight and direction to the internal team and impacted partners and Members
• Responsible for the dissemination of funds for an allocated budget and keeping track of any discrepancies
• Conduct media interviews as a spokesperson as appropriate
Who You Are
• University degree in public policy, political science, public administration, or related field
• 4+ years of experience in government or a combination of education and relevant work experience
• Thorough understanding of Canada’s political system(s), including the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government
• Persuasive communication with superior writing and analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to build, develop and grow internal and external stakeholder relationships to meet strategic goals
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting strict deadlines
