Position Details

What You Will Do

  • Oversee the review and approval of reinsurance journal entries and reconciliations prepared by members of the Reinsurance and Insurance Financial Reporting team.
  • Develop and maintain day-to-day reinsurance accounting procedures to promote efficiency in accounting transactions and reporting.
  • Analyze and prepare the quarterly and annual performance and reinsurance settlement reporting to reinsurers and manage the reinsurance payments and receipts.
  • Understand the various reinsurance treaties and the impacts on reinsurance operations and the insurance KPI metrics.
  • Lead the quarterly and annual preparation of reinsurance related financial statement and regulatory reporting areas and assist in review of relevant balance sheet and income statement account analysis.
  • Coordinate the Finance components of the annual reinsurance renewal cycle including the data gathering to support the submission packages, questionnaires, and exhibits.
  • Manage and keep abreast of the technical accounting requirements for the reinsurance portfolio to ensure our reporting is aligned with relevant accounting standards.
  • Support internal and external audits and regulatory reviews related to reinsurance.
  • Lead and support all finance aspects for the implementation of a new reinsurance system. Implement automation and continuous improvement opportunities in working papers and settlement procedures to reduce manual processes.
  • Develop and maintain partnership with key input business functions (i.e. Risk, Actuarial, Pricing, etc.) and reinsurance partners as well as operational areas at all leadership levels.

Who You Are

  • Bachelors or equivalent degree in Business / Finance / Accounting.
  • 5-7+ years progressive experience in an Insurance accounting role.
  • CPA designation required.
  • Industry accreditation in Insurance related field (CIP or ARe) would be an asset.
  • Preparation of complete financial statements and regulatory reporting.
  • Strong blend of strategic, critical thinking, analytical and problem solving and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook) and experience with SAP and Aptitude preferred.
