Position Details

What you will do:

  • Interact with Data Centre Operations/Systems Administration/ Application Support teams to ensure the proper design and deployment of databases.
  • Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with stakeholders
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols and standards
  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of databases
  • Configuration planning and installation of mostly Oracle (80%) and MS-SQL (20%) databases
  • Monitor general health and perform day-to-day database administration duties
  • Assist DBAs with routine maintenance including database rebuilds/re-indexing/expansion and archiving
  • Provide oversight and technical DB assistance for server upgrades and conversions as required
  • Work collaboratively with Infrastructure Architect to design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for recoverability and maximum availability.  
  • Prepare change control documentation.
  • Administer database security, establish effective security controls, and be primary point of contact for audits

Who you are:

  • College Diploma or University Degree in the field of computer science and/or 10 years equivalent work experience.
  • Oracle and Microsoft certifications is an asset
  • Minimum 10 years of practical DBA experience with sound working knowledge of database structures, theories, principals, and practices supporting platforms: Oracle and MSSQL
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with various Oracle DB software installations, database configuration & creation, stored procedures & packages PL/SQL and SQL script writing, RMAN techniques will be considered a nice to have
  • Oracle RAC and DataGuard solid expertise is required
  • Proven problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of and experience with client-server computing and relational database environments
  • Experience with Data Management and Data Processing flowcharting techniques
  • Knowledge of reporting and query tools and practices
  • Scripting skills in both Linux and Windows server environments.
  • Strong understanding of all database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting databases on both Windows and Unix servers.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Self-motivated with keen attention to detail
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
