Position Details
What you will do:
- Investigate, evaluate, negotiate personal/commercial lines claims of moderate to high complexity
- Manage Catastrophic claims and claims with catastrophic risk
- Handle their own litigation/LAT disputes
- Manage challenging coverage claims with tact and professionalism
- Timely, accurate reserving in line with corporate protocols and guidelines
- Maintain control over expenses through pro-active handling techniques
- Obtain approval from Manager on claims above authority
- Provide high quality customer experience to all stakeholders
- Collaborate effectively with peers/other departments
- Remain up to date on industry trends and case law
- Manage claims in litigation, participate in mediations, pre-trials, and settlement conferences
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Manager
Who you are:
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5-7 years of accident benefits claims handling
- CIP or working towards designation
- Solid understanding of SABs and LAT Common Rules of Practice and Procedure along with knowledge of case law
- Strong understanding of Ontario Auto Legislation and insurance contracts in various jurisdictions
- Knowledge of principles and practices of claims settlement, policy wording, fraud investigations and coverage issues
- Good time management skills
- Ability to collaborate in a team environment; prioritize and multi-task
- Ability to cross-reference information with attention to detail
- Adaptability and willingness to learn
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Strong general computer knowledge required
