Position Details

The General Accountant, under the direction of the Manager Accounting, is focused on preparing and assisting with monthly, quarterly, and year end activities. The General Accountant will assist the Senior Accountant in various department tasks including journal entries, reconciliations and accruals.

What You Will Do 

  • Assisting with monthly, quarterly and year end General and Investment accounting and reporting
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial statements, audits, and any other quarterly/annual reporting requirements 
  • Ensuring accuracy of data, regulatory compliance and performance measurement
  • Assisting in Accounts Payable processing and issuing of payments
  • Reconciling investments assets and cash balances, researching discrepancies, investigating questionable transactions 
  • Assisting in the preparation of investment reports to management 
  • Working with HR, responsible for payroll related entries and reconciliations
  • Preparing monthly intercompany reconciliations, investigations, bank reconciliations and addressing any differences
  • Preparing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and adjusting entries on the balance sheet and income statement accounts 
  • Assisting in general ledger, system processes and testing
  • Assisting with regulatory reporting on quarterly/annual P&C and IBC files, statements and worksheets 
  • •    Providing support regarding strategic management planning and implementation including presenting and analyzing of internal controls
  • Preparing working papers for auditors review, discussing any variances  and assisting the Accounting Supervisor on year-end audit functions

Who You Are 

  • University degree/College diploma in Accounting or Business related discipline
  • 3 years experience in similar role is required, Investment accounting experience is an asset
  • CPA preferred or in process of obtaining
  • Insurance industry experience preferred
  • Excellent computer knowledge and MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Familiarity with general ledger systems
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills
