Position Details

What You Will Do

  • Manages the accounting function and reviews and approves journal entries and account reconciliations.  Recording financial transactions in accordance with IFRS 17 accounting principles and ensure general ledger is accurate and up-to-date and reconciled / analyzed on a monthly basis.

  • Preparing monthly /quarterly /annual entity financial statements and supporting documents 

  • Regulatory reporting – Oversee preparation of quarterly and annual P&C1 statements and worksheets. Statutory reporting (P&C1) and monitoring of compliance (metrics including the MCT ratio). This includes review of P&C1 and presentation to Senior Management  

  • Compilation of notes to financial statements

  • Liaises with internal/external auditors and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with the respective requirements and promptly inform management of any deficiencies.

  • Assist with review and approval of annual and quarterly tax filings with Canadian regulatory bodies for premium taxes, HST and assessments including maintenance payments & accruals of tax liabilities for corporate taxes and related reconciliations  

  • Liaises with other requesting units on tax issues and with Corporate Tax Department

  • Responsible for monitoring of bank balances and cash flow projections to ensure adequate funding for deficit and minimize idle cash. Monitoring and minimization of foreign exchange risk exposure.

  • Responsible for reinsurance and claims reporting to external parties, including regulatory and Senior Management and actuarial department. 

  • Assisting in other ad hoc projects when required (analysis, forecasting, budgeting)

 

Who You Are

  • Professional accounting designation - CA/CPA/CMA

  • Minimum of 5 years Canadian P&C insurance industry experience, including GAAP and IFRS filing requirements

  • Detailed knowledge of accounting procedures, policies and controls and the Canadian regulatory environment. 

  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Outlook including financial system applications such as Epicor. 

  • Familiarity with systems such as Epicor, Guidewire, Adapt & Fiserv and able to adapt to other new systems easily is an advantage

  • Working knowledge of Aptitude IFRS 17 solution system and previous work experience in a P&C insurance industry is preferred
