Position Details

What You Will Do 

• Leads, manages and develops claim associates to maximize full performance potential.  
• Provide coaching on claims technical skills and strategic direction on claims handling
• Oversight of consistent reserving practices in accordance with reserving philosophy
• Assist with review and preparation of large loss reports
• Manage distribution of workload and monitor capacity and resourcing
• Works with management in executing claims corporate strategies, creating performance targets & Shared Success Goals that complement those strategies.   
• Analyzing reports and creating action plans to ensure targets and goals are being achieved.  
• Completion of claim reviews to ensure appropriate application of department requirements for handling including: coverage, investigation, reserving, service levels, vendor usage, recovery and evaluation. 
• Ensure compliance with Regulatory bodies in various provinces.   
• Accountable for the customer experience as delivered by the team.  
• Responds to customer concerns and complaints in an effective and timely manner; that customer concerns are acknowledged within 24 hours and resolved within 48.  
• Collaborate with Ombudsperson to resolve formal complaints
• Promotes Echelon’s escalation process.  

Who You Are 

• Post-secondary diploma/degree, or CIP designation, or industry experience as an equivalent
• A minimum of 7 years of claims handling experience; handling complex files 
• A minimum of 2 years of leadership experience 
• Relevant and progressive claims experience, inclusive of technical and coverage issues, management / resolution.  
• Familiarity with established and recent case law
• Understanding/appreciation of various legal jurisdictions across North America
• Knowledge of principles and practices of claims settlement, policy wording, fraud investigations and coverage issues
• Use of claim operating systems  
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook)
• Strong Leadership, Communication, and multi-tasking skills
