Position Details

Reporting to the Manager, Claims Auto PD, the Unit Manager will oversee a team of adjusters on both personal and commercial policies. 

What You Will Do

  • Lead, manage and develop claim associates to maximize full performance potential
  • Provide coaching on claims technical skills and strategic direction on claims handling
  • Ensure adherence to corporate reserving practices 
  • Ensure equitable distribution of claims within the team
  • Conducts regular feedback discussions with associates regarding training needs, development plans, execution of plans, and performance results
  • Encourages continuous learning within the team
  • Creates and delivers performance reviews along with action plans to manage performance
  • Delivers exceptional customer service, internally and externally


Who You Are

  • Post-secondary education, or equivalent industry experience 
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of claims handling experience; handling complex files
  • A minimum of 1 year of leadership experience
  • Relevant and progressive claims experience, inclusive of technical and coverage issues, management / resolution. 
  • Relevant and progressively more responsible claims experience, inclusive of technical and coverage issues, management / resolution. 
  • Working knowledge of the OAP 1 and Insurance Act and other legislation governing property and casualty insurance claims. 
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of claims settlement, policy wording, fraud investigations and coverage issues
  • Progressive experience in training / mentoring / coaching using a variety of approaches
